Jericho Hill 07:09
Caleb Jones was a wanted man from Cody down to Tucson. He had no fear of God or the law or the Devil. They said he was the lucky one, but luck don’t live out there. And pretty soon his outlaw days were done. There was gold up in Deadwood, and women down in Wicked Dodge. But he wasn’t headed either way this time. She was gone and he was lost and the law was on his trail. So he headed north to the Graham County line. She had eyes that a man could drown in. And have no regrets at all. For he loved her like no other. So he would try to get her back or he would fall on Jericho Hill. What he learned from the Kiawa was how to taste the wind. And how to read the secrets of the land. But he was out among the willows for the many times he’d sinned. And he could only hope that she would understand. She had eyes that a man could drown in. And have no regrets at all. For he loved her like no other. So he would try to get her back or he would fall on Jericho Hill. He was hoping they could get away to somewhere far from there. But she’d been keepin’ her distance while he’d been breakin’ the law. And the chances just weren’t good that she still cared. So he rode through the mountains and they lost his trail. And he came out in that valley free and clear. So maybe he was the lucky one, but luck don’t live out there. So come what may, his outlaw days were done. She had eyes that a man could drown in. And have no regrets at all. For he loved her like no other. So he would try to get her back or he would fall into those Eyes that a man could drown in. And have no regrets at all. For he loved her like no other. So he would try to get her back or he would fall on Jericho Hill.

Three days gone, three days gone. My baby up and left me now she’s three days gone. Takin’ her chances out there all alone, three days gone. She said goodbye, said goodbye. Don’t you come a-lookin’ baby, don’t even try. 'Cause I said goodbye. I knew she was nothin’ but a danger zone. Walkin’ talkin’ dynomite. Red dress, what a mess, bad to the bone. Hope you gonna live through the night. Walk away baby, walk away. Ain’t y’all listnin’ to what I say, walk away. Feel so bad, I feel so bad. Best damn woman that I ever had, feel so bad. I knew she was nothin’ but a danger zone. Walkin’ talkin’ dynomite. Red dress, what a mess, bad to the bone. Hope you gonna live through the night. Come back home, baby, come back home I’ll fire up the Caddilac, polish up the chrome, If you come back home. Three days gone, three days gone. My baby up and left me now she’s three days gone. Takin’ her chances out there all alone, three days gone. Three days gone. Well if I drink enough whiskey you know I'll be Three Days Gone.

You were the loner and I was the fool. I could have turned away but I broke my only rule. And walked right into danger when all the clues were there. I knew you’d only break my heart and not even care. I was just droppin’ by to have a drink or two. You didn’t even try so what was I supposed to do? You were whiskey and soda and those high heel shoes. Now I got the old what might have been blues. The thing about exes is there’s always some whys. And what really wrecks it is too many lies. We were just another kind of oil and water. But the thought of you takes up so much room I know I really ought to Forget you baby. I know I need to try. But I’ll probly end up someplace between nowhere and goodbye. ‘Cause when somebody wins…somebody’s got to lose And get those old what might have been blues. Those old what might have been blues.

Catfish Stew 02:48
Catfish Stew, Catfish Stew. Down by the river baby me and you Bile it down with lots o’ corn bread too. Gimme up a mess o’ that Catfish Stew. Etouffee, Etouffee. Laissez les bon temps rouler. Hot sauce and peppers gonna make you say, Hit me with a shot o’ that Etouffee. I will be pickin’ up my baby in the Cadillac say, “Baby what’s on your mind?” “Lets go down to Lemmon Avenue and don’t look back. ‘Cause that’s where Elvis always ordered the number nine.” Chili Rice, oh Chili Rice. Shanghai Jimmy make it very nice. In a big old tub with lemonade on ice. So gimme up a mess o’ that Chili Rice. Crawfish pie, Crawfish pie. Gets on the menu up in heaven and it ain’t no lie. Taste so good gonna make you cry. So gimme up a mess o’ that Crawfish pie. I will be pickin’ up my baby in my Coupe de Ville say, “Baby what’s on your mind?” “Lets go down to Lemmon Avenue I know that you will. Cause that’s where Elvis always ordered the number nine.” Chili Rice, oh Chili Rice. Shanghai Jimmy make it very nice. In a big old tub with lemonade on ice. So gimme just a mess o’ that Chili Rice. Catfish Stew, Catfish Stew. Down by the river baby me and you Bile it down with lots o’ corn bread too. So gimme just a mess o’ that; gimme little bit o’ that; gimme just a taste o’ that Catfish Stew.

Fallen Angel 05:53
As the night train rolls out of Birmingham, and as the whistle dies away on the wind. I just stand out here in the cold and rain hoping I will see her again. Hoping I will see her again. She was half crazy, the only problem was She thought that was the good half usually. She was a virus, a drug, a religion all in one, Just like every broken dream. Just like every broken dream. But there was something of the Fallen Angel about her. It was the way she could get under your skin. And I guess I’ll have to learn to live without her. And hope that she might let me in. Hoping she might let me in. I’ve seen her come, I’ve seen her go, I’ve seen her change her mind. For that I should be grateful I suppose. But she took everything I had and said her last goodbye. Now I got nothin’, nothin’ left to lose. I got nothin’ left to lose. Because she totally dismantled my defenses once again. Now I sit alone and wonder where she’ll be. “So long,” she said, “I won’t be back, it’s all gone dead.” “And love’s not what it used to be. Love’s not what it used to be.” Still there was something of the Fallen Angel about her. The way she could get under your skin. And I guess I’ll have to learn to live without her. And hope that she might let me in. Hoping she might let me in. So as the night train rolls out of Birmingham, and as the whistle dies away on the wind. I just head on home in the cold and rain hoping this won’t be the end. I’m hopin’ this won’t be the end. ‘Cause there is something of the Fallen Angel about her. The way she can get under your skin. And I guess I’ll have to learn to live without her. Until I see her again. Yes until I see her again.

Well he liked to drink and he liked a pretty face. He was long on heart, but short on money. Just givin’ up the chase. And when the last bit of dust had floated away. It won’t surprise nobody that he ain’t gonna change. She was pretty as an angel, but she was just bad news. She had all the charm of a runaway train but she was hard to refuse. And when the last bit of dust had floated away. It won’t surprise nobody that she ain’t gonna change. They weren’t headed anywhere ‘cept for trouble in the end. When there’d be nothin’ left but the bones. So they came back for another round, just another chance to mend. And peel back the layers one by one. Now you can say I was nothin’, you can let me go. You can shake your head and slowly walk away. You can call your mother, and you can call me all those names. But never mind, ‘cause I ain’t gonna change. She said, “I ain’t goin’ anywhere, gonna stay right here tonight. And I don’t care if I’m stayin’ here all alone. And I don’t know who is wrong, I don’t even care who’s right. But don’t you worry, ‘cause we ain’t gonna change. You can up and call your mother, and you can call me all those names. But never mind, ‘cause I ain’t gonna change. Never mind, ‘cause I ain’t gonna change.

Miss Baltimore came walkin’ on down the avenue, She was a danger zone in red high heels. Everything about her was strictly taboo. The way she walked would give a dead man the chills. Miss Baltimore was talkin’ to Little Jimmy Brown, And what was said we’ll never know. But the fact remains that something was clearly going down. And Miss Baltimore was all the show. Now crazy don’t mean stupid, my ex is livin’ proof. I knew I had to get away. Miss Baltimore kept walkin’, she was smooth as vermouth. She was a movin’ violation, you know she parlez-you Francais. She blew my concentration, derailed my train of thought. She won’t confirm nor deny. But the fact remains that something had clearly been forgot. Miss Baltimore was sayin’ goodbye. I once seen a smile like that, it was hangin’ on a duck in a Chinatown window. Her eyes could change my world like that. In the space of a heartbeat…in no time flat. I once saw a smile like that, it was hangin’ on a portrait in the Louvre museum. Her eyes could change my world like that. In the space of a heartbeat…in no time flat. Miss Baltimore went walkin’ on up the avenue, and I knew I had to let her go. ‘Cause word’d get around ‘bout our midnight rendezvous. It’d be way too complicated, y’all might get the video. Probably with good reason, she never did look back. And where she went we’ll never know. But the fact remains that when she got into that Cadillac, Miss Baltimore was all… Miss Baltimore was all… Miss Baltimore was all the show. She was all the show.

A man without money’s got a whole lot of trouble But a man without love has got nothin’ at all. He can hangout and hustle and still have no answer To the question of why it was all his own fault. Because a man is no better than the pain he has caused When he looks in the eyes of the ones he’s loved. And if he tries to go back to the way it once was There’s only the ghosts of pictures on the walls. He was one of the lonely, he was really confused. With way too much attitude and not enough sense. He spent all of his time down at Little Jimmy’s Pool Hall And he always maintained that it was just self defense. Because a man is no better than the pain he has caused When he looks in the eyes of the ones he’s loved. And if he tries to go back to the way it once was There’s only the ghosts of pictures on the walls. You’ll know him when you see him, all weathered and slow. Just a no-account drifter with a whole lot of scars. Just a-wishin’ he was ridin’ in an old Coupe de Ville. With the girl of his dreams and a sky full of stars. Because a man is no better than the pain he has caused When he looks in the eyes of the ones he’s loved. And if he tries to go back to the way it once was There’s only the ghosts of pictures on the walls. Yes there’s only the ghosts of pictures on the walls.

They come here with some money and the family’s second car. They end up waiting tables in some honky-tonk bar Down on Broadway. Just waiting for somebody to appear. They living in a group house, hoping for a break. They got to learn to play a whole lot better. But what’s it gonna take to get some interest? Why can’t nobody see how wonderful they are? But they’ll be gone by summer, they’re just October Girls. Who’s that in the corner? Should I give him my CD? Will he see that I am different From the ones who’ll never be down on Broadway? Waiting for somebody to appear. So they chip away at all the walls that make this cell. But nothing ever changes and they still think what the hell I’m down on Broadway. Just waiting for somebody to appear. But they’ll be gone by summer, all those October Girls. Now only one in a million gets to make it through that door. Because it’s all about the money, and it’s never about art. So you try for years and years and years and never see the light of day. So if you’re still here tomorrow, and if you’re not too old, There’s one thing I can tell you: don’t ever sell your soul. ‘Cause they don’t really need you, they only want October Girls. You can use up all your money, and more that you don’t have. Buyin’ stuff that you don’t need, Trying to impress someone who doesn’t care. Serves you right for bein’ such a fool. So the drunker I stand here, the longer I get. And the more I need to find a girl to help me to forget That I have lost a step or two. Well that ain’t nothin’ new and I’ll get over it. Because there really ain’t much difference Between me and the October Girls. No there really ain’t much difference Between me and those October Girls.

These old bones have walked this road for so long. Lookin’ for the answers found in wood and steel. I sometimes got a sense of what was right and what was wrong. Now and then out run the driving wheel. Now and then I out run the driving wheel. With these old bones. So many places, so many faces come to mind So many friends and so many miles. I sometimes got a sense of what there was out there to find. Now and then I got to see some smiles. Now and then I get to see some smiles. Like a sailor looking up at his old familiar stars. Finding more than he lost along the way. There will be sweet love and there will be scars. From travelling down this road another day with these old bones. Sometimes I think this should be a whole lot easier. But after all we’re lucky to be here tonight. There’s more than magic in that old Chevrolet moon. So all we got to do is hold on tight. All we got to do is hold on tight. These old bones are gonna walk this road some more. And find out just what there is to see. And if it just so happens that I run across you there. I hope you’ll walk some miles with me. Yes I hope you’ll walk some miles with me. Like a gambler lookin’ down at his old familiar cards. Winning more than he lost along the way. There will be sweet love and there will be scars. From travelling down this road another day with these old bones. These old bones have walked this road for so long.

I’ll have another whiskey, how about you? I think I’ve had enough but I’d like to buy you two. You’re lookin’ kinda lonely, you’re lookin’ kinda pale. You’re lookin’ like a woman who just got outta jail. You doin’ the Left Right Shuffle. Movin’ too fast to get free. Causin’ a whole lot of trouble. And you too blind to see. Now I tend to avoid it whenever I can. It’s been goin’ on since time began. With the Left Right Shuffle, somebody gonna shake you down. Now I thought I’d pack it up and get down the road someday. Find a smoky bar and drink my blues away. Tryin’ not to fall into another bad deal. All the cats will say they’re only in it to steal. And do the Left Right Shuffle. Movin’ too fast to get free. Causin’ a whole lot of trouble. And they too blind to see. Now I tend to avoid it whenever I can. It’s been goin’ on since time began. With the Left Right Shuffle, somebody gonna shake you down. Now where the politicians live there’s only money and crooks. They runnin’ all the numbers and they cookin’ the books. They all about the business, they all about the jive. And it don’t make no difference if you dead or alive. They'll do the Left Right Shuffle. Movin’ too fast to get free. Causin’ a whole lot of trouble. And you too blind to see. Now I tend to avoid it whenever I can. It’s been goin’ on since time began. With the Left Right Shuffle, somebody gonna shake you down. Yes the Left Right Shuffle. Movin’ too fast to get free. Causin’ a whole lot of trouble. And you too blind to see. You just got to avoid it whenever you can. It’s been goin’ on since time began. With the Left Right Shuffle, somebody gonna shake you down. They gonna shake you down. With the Left Right Shuffle.

Days Gone By 05:04
I’m a little slower than last year. But a little more inclined To keep a hold of the things that matter most. Like sittin’ down with some old friends; we’ll probly drink to much. And talk about the love that we’ve yet to find. Days gone by so fast, you know it don’t seem right. How or why makes no difference now. ‘Cause here we are tonight underneath the stars. Remembering the days gone by. There's a little less of the bad stuff. I'm a little further behind. You know I almost feel invisible sometimes. So you pick up the phone and call somebody, or have a drink with your sons. And tell them all about the love that they’ve yet to find. Days gone by so fast, you know it don’t seem right. How or why makes no difference now. ‘Cause here we are tonight underneath the stars. Remembering the days gone by. Sometimes you worry about what’s comin’ down the road. But the truth be told, nobody knows. One fine day far away from here. We’re gonna know it all. A little sooner than later. A little peace of mind. To see just how we got this far. We’re old enough to remember. And young enough to care. That it’s all about the love that we’ve yet to find. Days gone by so fast, you know it don’t seem right. How or why makes no difference now. ‘Cause here we are tonight underneath the stars. Remembering the days gone by. Days gone by so fast, you know it don’t seem right. How or why makes no difference now. ‘Cause here we are tonight underneath the stars. Talkin’ about those days. Laughin’ about those days. Remembering the days gone by. I’m a little slower than last year. But a little more inclined To keep a hold of the things that matter most.

I could go crazy. I could drink. Or I could gas up the Chevrolet. I could want more, and I could think all about the one that got away. But I wanna dance and I wanna sing and when all is said and done. I will love you as long as the stars still shine, As long as the rivers still run. She said, “you know I’ll only break your heart.” That’s all right, it was broken long ago. And beyond a certain point it’s all just wreckage Lyin’ on the side of a long forgotten road. But I know you and you know me and when all is said and done. I’ll love you as long as the moon still shines, As long as the rivers still run. You can search the whole world over And never find what you’re looking for. Till one day it sneaks up on you And out of nowhere you’re lookin’ no more. You can dance with the Devil, you can shake his hand. Or you can turn and walk the other way. And in the end when your time is up, just what are they gonna say. Now I’ve seen the way to heaven and when all is said and done. And I’ll love you as long as the stars still shine, As long as the rivers still run. I’ll love you as long as the stars still shine, As long as the rivers still run.
