Con men and swindlers, liars and thieves. Hustlers and hookers tryin’ to deceive you. Cheaters and gamblers and gigolos too. They’re just Small Change Big Shots, tryin’ to take it all from you. (you know) None of ‘em listen, none of ‘em care. If you haven’t heard by now you’re all alone out there. They’re sellin’ free-range chicken, well I ain’t buyin’. From the Small Change Big Shots, ‘cause they all lyin’. When the next thing happens don’t say I didn’t warn you. When it all comes down there’ll be no place to hide. From the desperados sellin’ contraband. From the politicians and their sleight-of-hand. From The Small Change Big Shots and all their plans. They just got to have it, all the money and the fame. They’ll do anything to get it, they’ll play any game. Lyin’, cheatin’, stealin’ too. They’re all just Small Change Big Shots tryin’ to take it all from you. Scammers and criminals, robbers and crooks. Dealers and dopers give you those looks. A system so broken ‘cause we gave it all to The Small Change Big Shots tryin’ to take it all from you. ‘Cause they got plans baby. They gonna put they hands right down in your pocket And take every dime you ever had, lord have mercy.

When she walked in through that door I thought my heart was gonna break When she strolled across the floor I thought now what’s it gonna take? You’re lookin’ fine and there’s no doubt about it. Wish you were mine, there’s no way around it. Can’t keep it under my hat. I want a taste of that. When she ordered Champagne I figured this could be the start. And though I’d never be the same, it was important to be smart. She could be 30, she could be 18. She could be dirty that remained to be seen. And if she only wants to chat, I want a taste of that. I want a taste of that. It would be so sweet. She turned up my thermostat. And then she knocked me off my feet. When she said, “you wanna dance?” well what else could a poor boy do? Yes it was my only chance, my only way to get through. I held her close and she whispered in my ear. “I think you’re sweet so lets get outta here. And if you wanna meet at my flat, I want a taste of that.” I want a taste of that. It would be so sweet. She turned up my thermostat. And then she knocked me off my feet. So when she walked back out that door, I thought my heart was gonna break. You know I ran across the floor shouting, “wait baby wait.” You’re lookin’ fine and there’s no doubt about it. Wish you were mine, there’s no way around it. I ain’t no diplomat. I want a taste of that. You’re lookin’ fine and there’s no way around it. Wish you were mine, there’s no doubt about it. She was the real kitty kat. I want a taste of that. I want a taste of that. Mmm, mmm, I want a taste of that.

Come on in and sit on down. We come to play and not fool around. You want to hear a song well maybe we will. If you write it on the back of a hundred dollar bill. Wrong line, wrong lane, wrong number, wrong name We tryin’ hard to get it right. Workin’ all day for a dollar or two, but that don’t matter tonight. ‘Cause we’re here for the party. We’re here to make you move. It’s all from the heart. And we live for the groove. We live for the groove. Now if you wanna dance, if you wanna shake ‘em down. You can take a chance here in funky town. Come on baby you got nothin’ to lose. Put on your red dress and your dancin’ shoes. Now you know what’s gonna happen tonight It’s all about the love and not about the fight. So if you wanna come over to the rock ‘n’ roll side. Come a little closer baby, let’s ride.

I’m here tonight to talk about the great inventions of all time. The wheel and the printing press for sure. Hot runnin’ water and the ‘lectric guitar. Television, peanut butter and the damn good Hershey bar. CG in the movies, Ibuprofen too. The Fork and the rifle ought to make the list. Mr. Coffe, the ATM, whiskey, wine and beer. But there’s only one invention that’s the best. And that's called...Cruise control. I’m here to tell you it’s a wonder. Cruise control. Makes your life easy when you’re drivin’ down the road. You just set it and forget it, it’s like magic when you let it. Take you all the way back home. Now of all the things that make our lives much easier. Like the cell phone it’s got a thousand apps. Now our girlfriends they can’t say that we hate to ask the way. ‘Cause all we got to do is pull up those Google maps. We got the stereo, got the radio, we got digital audio. Bi-focals, light bulbs and the SUV. Video games and baseball, oreos and Velcro. But one thing is the best you’ll ever see. Cruise control. I’m here to tell you it’s a wonder. Cruise control. Makes your life so easy when you’re drivin’ down the road. You just set it and forget it, it’s like magic when you let it. Take you all the way back home. So now you know about all the stuff that makes the world go round. Like the assembly line and electricity. The fridgerater and the washing machine. Telescope, microscope and the soap to keep us clean. Laptop computers and all those microchips. We got sailing ships and motorcycles too. Airoplanes and automobiles but you’ll never know how good it feels Till you’re ridin’ with the one that is the best. Cruise control. I’m here to tell you it’s a wonder. Cruise control. Makes your life so easy when you’re drivin’ down the road. You just set it and forget it, it’s like magic when you let it. Take you all the way back home. CCruise control. I’m here to tell you it’s a wonder. Cruise control. Makes your life so easy when you’re drivin’ down the road. You just set it and forget it, it’s like magic when you let it. Take you all the way; gonna take you all the way; Gonna take you all the way back home.

My daddy grew up in San Antone, my momma came from Abilene. And I was born in a town on the border line. Most of my life I’ve been a man alone, doin’ the best I can. Workin’ in these honky-tonks and that’s just fine. ‘Cause I got Texas, I got Texas in my genes. All y’all know just what it means when I tell ya, I got Texas in my genes. When I was young and havin’ lots of fun I was playin’ in a rock ‘n’ roll band. I fell in love with a sweet little Mexi-queen. Lord have mercy that girl could dance and when she took me by the hand. She said, “you might be just the best that I’ve ever seen.” ‘Cause you got Texas, you got Texas in your genes. This little girl knows just what it means and I tell ya, You got Texas in your genes. Now it really don’t matter what you got, or how much you can pay. And when they tell you that you’re really hot, somehow in the light of day It don’t make no nevermind, ‘cause nobody really cares. Was it just an accident, or did somebody answer your prayers? I’ve never worked on the rodeo, I’ve only tried to survive. So I’ve played this old guitar most every night. Now if you’re thinkin’ that you wanna dance, You better put ‘er into overdrive. And you best believe we’re gonna rock till the mornin’ light. ‘Cause I got Texas, I got Texas in my genes. All y’all know just what it means when I tell ya, I got Texas in my genes. ‘Cause I got Texas, I got Texas in my genes. All y’all know just what it means when I tell ya, I got Texas in my genes.

Well there’s been a lot of trouble down on Heartache Avenue. It’s got me seein’ double and the mailman’s overdue. Maybe its time I split down to Boca Raton. ‘Cause it’s certainly very risky stayin’ here at home. Well I thought I had it easy, thought I got away clean. Thought them pork chops weren’t too greasy, Thought I’d say just what I mean. Maybe I better get myself another Vodka and lime and wonder, What’s it gonna be this time. She came at me like a speeding train. Now I can’t find my glasses, left the dogs out in the rain. I suppose the truth is, I’d do it all again. If you asked me, “Was it worth it?” I'd sayl, "maybe now and then." So I cop another nowhere gig down the Paradise Café. The cats there they ain’t smokin’, they’re just usually in the way. So maybe I better get myself another Vodka and lime and wonder What’s it gonna be this time. She came at me like a speeding train. Now I can’t find my umbrella, and I’m stuck out in the rain. I suppose the truth is, I’d do it all again. If you asked me, “Was it worth it?” I'd say, maybe now and then. So I cop another nowhere gig with an out of town quintet. But those cats are so L-7, they ain’t learned the changes yet. So maybe I better get myself another Vodka and lime and wonder, What’s it gonna be this time. So maybe I better get myself another Vodka and lime and wonder, What’s it gonna be…what’s it gonna be…what’s it gonna be this time.

Raylene 03:59
You come in through the backdoor. Once again you’re sneakin’ around. You can’t fool me ‘cause I know where you been. Up to no good again. You can smile all you want to. But that won’t get me off the track. So please don’t tell me any more of your lies, ‘cause I saw you in that black Cadillac. I coulda stayed here all by myself and used the herbal remedy. But since I love you oh so much, you know that I just had to see. I can’t believe it, you done it again. Now you know we gonna have to part. You were the one but now we are done, Raylene you finally broke my heart. So go and pack up your suitcase, ‘cause I don’t want to see you here no more. Now don’t be cryin’, ‘cause you done me wrong. Just get yourself on out that door. Now you can promise me all night long that you’ll never ever do it again. But I won’t listen, I won’t change my mind, like I’ve done so many times before. So I’m gonna stay here all by myself and use the herbal remedy. And since I love you oh so much, you know that I will finally see. Got to believe it, you done it again, so now we gonna have to part. You were the one, but now we are done. Raylene you finally broke my heart. You were the one, but now we are done. Raylene you finally broke my heart.

Uncle John climbed out the window, stood out on the edge. He was a thousand feet above the ground. He couldn’t take the trouble, couldn’t shake the pain. And he thought about that all the way down. Now I’ve opened up that window and stood out on that rail. And I’ve wondered how it feels to take that fall. So through all the lies and all the tears and all the things I’ve said. Lovin’ you was the best part of it all. He hitched his way down to Mexico when he was seventeen, And he knew she’d probably never understand. When he figured he could find a place that they had never seen. Something like the promised land. Well I’ve traveled down that highway, I’ve been on down that road. And I’m pretty sure I never made that call. Because through all the lies and all the tears and all the things I’ve said. Lovin’ you was the best part of it all. There’s a thousand reasons good enough to end it. There’s a million stars up there to make it clear. That a hundred times I’ve had to go and mend it. ‘Cause after all love is why we’re here. There’s a thousand reasons good enough to end it. There’s a million stars up there to make it clear. That a hundred times you have to go and mend it. ‘Cause after all love is why we’re here. If you open up that window and get out on the edge, There’s a word or two I’d say before you go. Is it really worth the trouble? Is it really worth the pain? And there’s one more thing I think you ought to know. You see I’ve opened up that window and stood out on that rail. And I know just what it means to take that fall. And through all the lies and all the tears and all the things I’ve said. Lovin’ you was the best part of it all. And through all the lies and all the tears and all the things I’ve said. Lovin’ you was the best part of it all.

There’s a fool on the wire tryin’ to cover up his crime. It’s a certifiable miracle he’s still alive. He sleeps with one eye always open and one ear to the ground. Listenin' to the changes in the jive. He doesn’t lie. He’s got a gift for fiction. Couldn’t keep it all to himself. Now he’s runnin’ to the ocean. You can look for him out there. Waiting for love to come around. Fortune tellers in the nightclubs they all say it’s gonna change. If you listen for the truth. In the Rialto down on Broadway there’s a deal goin’ down. And the fool he’s still lookin’ for his youth. He doesn’t lie. He’s got a gift for fiction. Couldn’t keep it all to himself. Now he’s runnin’ to the ocean. You can look for him out there. Waiting for love to come around. Now the Cold War is all over and the Berlin Wall is gone. And the girls on Second Avenue sure look fine. So the fool he is laughing now he’s better off than before. I can’t believe he’s made it all this time. He doesn’t lie. He’s got a gift for fiction. Couldn’t keep it all to himself. Now he’s runnin’ to the ocean. You can look for him out there. Waiting for love to come around. Waiting for love to come around.

Workin’ on the night shift, barely keepin' afloat. The sharks have started circling the boat. Now it’s come to my attention that somebody's been framed. Set up, swindled, fooled again, at least that’s what she claimed. I gotta get outta town. Hit the highway and don’t look back. Get outta town. I don’t know nothin’, I don’t know jack. Get outta town. Everything’s gonna be allright. When I get one last chance for a dance in the moonlight. Whispers and promises, you got your secrets and lies. No matter how hard you try to hide I can see it in your eyes. It’s not the Lincoln Continental, it’s not those alligator shoes. And if you think I’m gonna walk away, well let me give you the news. I gotta get outta town. Hit the highway and don’t look back. Get outta town. I don’t know nothin’, I don’t know jack. Get outta town. Everything’s gonna be allright. When I get one last chance for a dance in the moonlight. Why don’t we sit right here and have another drink. Maybe listen to one more song. And when the night is over, what do you think? Is there a reason to go on? So when the night is over and you’re on your way back home. Seems like nothin’s happening, you can polish up the chrome On that Lincoln Continental, you got nothin’ left to lose. And if you leave it all up to me you know what I’m gonna choose. I gotta get outta town. Hit the highway and don’t look back. Get outta town. I don’t know nothin’, I don’t know jack. Get outta town. Everything’s gonna be allright. When I get one last chance for a dance in the moonlight.

The Spaniard 05:25
There were some who said he was lazy. There were some who said he was just plain bad. There were some who said he would drive her crazy. But he was the best she’d ever had. There were some who said he was foolish To go down there that night. But there’s always a reason good enough. There’s a chance it will all go right. So adios amigos and please remember me. To the girls and to their mothers who sheltered us for free. And ride on my brothers into the setting sun. For when I take their money my work here will be done. It was somewhere back in ’69 in some no name border town. And there weren’t no way around it; somebody was goin’ down. We was layin’ low all morning, just trying to survive. We all knew that come what may, blood would run that night. So adios amigos and please remember me. To the girls and to their mothers who sheltered us for free. And ride on my brothers into the setting sun. For when I take their money my work here will be done. Now he called himself the Spaniard as he sat down to the game. He said, “Deal me in you pack of thieves, now that you know my name.” Then he pulled a wicked two-edged blade out of his boot and laid it flat. He said, “Don’t you try to cheat me or you’ll meet up with that.” So adios amigos and please remember me. To the girls and to their mothers who sheltered us for free. And ride on my brothers into the setting sun. For when I take their money my work here will be done.

A bright light’s notice…the quick surprise. The broken promises I saw them in your eyes. Tender avoidance…of unrehearsed lies. There’s no mistaking this exercise. It’s all just been, “Are you sure you want to go?” It’s all just been your long-running show. It’s all just been a little too much of “Somehow I know.” It’s time for me to go. A growing thunder…the reach of sound. I tried counting all the miles, I tried holding my ground. It rendered me senseless…and shuttered my speech. There’s no mistaking this stretch of beach. It’s all just been, “Are you sure you want to go?” It’s all just been your long-running show. It’s all just been a little too much of “Somehow I know.” It’s time for me to go. A sinking feeling…a Sunday cry. It’s not surprising you can’t look me in the eye. What a lyrical notion…walkin’ away. There’s no mistaking what I heard you say. It’s all just been, “Are you sure you want to go?” It’s all just been your long-running show. It’s all just been a little too much of “Somehow I know.” It’s all just been, “Are you sure you want to go?” It’s all just been your long-running show. It’s all just been a little too much of “Somehow,” A little too much of “Somehow,” a little too much of “Somehow,” A little too much of “Somehow,” a little too much… just a little too much. A little too much of “Somehow I know.” It’s time for me to go.

I truly hate these winters ‘cause it’s just too damn cold here. I’m gonna head on down to Mexico maybe early next year. I’ll be holed up in Durango with all the senoritas there. ‘Cause there’s nothin’ left in this old town and I really just don’t care. Now there’s One More Lost Cowboy out ridin’ on the range. And one more old soldier thinks everything can change. But one more broken heart says this time we are through. And one More Lost Cowboy wants to come on home to you. She wanted more money. I did the best that I could do. So I packed up this old guitar and put on my walkin’ shoes. And now I wonder how my kids are, and do they even know my name. And if I could go back there right now, would it ever be the same. For One More Lost Cowboy still ridin’ on the range And one more old soldier hopes somehow it will change. But one more broken heart says this time we are through. One More Lost Cowboy could be comin’ home to you. Anyone can listen but few can really hear. And pretty soon you learn there’s just not enough time. Still you have this mission to get past all the fear. And know everything will be fine. For One More Lost Cowboy still ridin’ on the range. And one more old soldier thinks everything will change. There’ll be no more broken hearts, that’s what a man’s got to do? For one More Lost Cowboy to be comin’ home to you. So if you still hate these winters ‘cause it’s just too damn cold here. You got to find a way to make it, maybe even this year. You can hole up with your lover, she’ll give you everything she can. ‘Cause there’s just no way out of this…and it’s time to make a stand. For One More Lost Cowboy out riding on the range. And one more old soldier knows everything will change. No more broken hearts, well that’s the best a man can do. Now one More Lost Cowboy will be comin’ home to you.

I met a girl, she was down by the river. She promised to love me at least for a while. But she sailed away in the dark of the night. And it’s hard to forget her smile. Yes it’s hard to forget her smile. So now I sing Goodnight, it’ll be allright If you let me down easy or lay me down slow. ‘Cause I’m all in, in love again and I can stay here or get up And walk out that door. Now there once was a good man who’d lost his way And he tried to discover the reasons why. He wore out his welcome and his good walkin’ shoes And he’s never been the same since that time. No he’s never been the same since that time. So now he sings Goodnight, it’ll be allright If you let me down easy or lay me down slow. ‘Cause I’m all in, in love again and I can stay here or get up And walk out that door. Now I’ve been out walkin’ and thinkin’ a lot About what we’re all doin’ here and what we are not. Though I can’t make much sense of it one thing’s for sure Love is the answer and love is the cure I said Love is the answer and love is the cure. So Goodnight, it’ll be allright If you let me down easy or lay me down slow. ‘Cause I’m all in, in love again and I can stay here or get up And walk out that door. So Goodnight, it’ll be allright If you let me down easy or lay me down slow. ‘Cause I’m all in, in love again and I can stay here or get up And just walk out that door.
